Wilhelm Shenrok: Diary of Wilhelm Shenrok Volume 1
Essays by Alexander Borovsky, Anton Uspensky, Vitaly Patsyukov, Pavel Lukiyanov. Edited by Valentina Lastovkina, Valeria Ismieva
The first volume of the publication includes texts by art historians Alexander Borovsky, Vitaly Patsyukov, and Anton Uspensky, dedicated to Shenrok and written specifically for this project. Additionally, the book consists of interviews with Shenrock leading Russian artists and critics - Ekaterina Dygot, Victor Misiano, and Dmitry Prigov, as well as a list of exhibitions and performances in which Wilhelm Shenrock participated.
The texts of Wilhelm Shenrock are not only a description of personal events in the author’s life but also a reflection of the artist about the processes that took place in the unofficial Soviet art of the 1970-1980s and later in post-Soviet art.
The presence of William Shenrock on the contemporary art scene is discrete: he is either actively exposed, sometimes disappears, sometimes acts as an actionist, sometimes as an interviewer of leading figures of contemporary art, then as the author of an album of conceptual drawings, accompanied by philosophical commentaries. Perhaps the constant component of his work, in fact, and giving it integrity, is accentuated self-reflection: language (graphic, literary, body language in performance and photography media) is primarily aimed at self-description.
